I found an article about the trends in the portrait photography industry. I have been told over the last few years that portraiture sales are decreasing, but this article states otherwise.

2004 Portrait Sales In Millions:
Wedding: $1,143
Senior: $383
K-11: $634
Family: $567
Child: $490
Sports: $179
Other: $473

The article then goes on to explain that family portraits and school portraits are decreasing but only slightly which has even lessened over the last few years.

Some reasons for these declines may involve:
economic trends
personal digital cameras sales increase
more technology savvy consumers

But there are some photography that has continued to increase over the years:
event photography
portraits in sitting on Santa's lap and special events
church directories
sports photography
nursery segments

Therefore, to ensure a stable income for my photography studio I would need to make sure that I offer some of the increasing services.  I would be interested in church directories, enhancing my event photography availability, and nursery segments.

West Side Garage Sale!!!

West Side Garage Sale
351 Summer Avenue NW
Hours:
Wednesday-Friday 12pm-5pm
Saturdays 9am-1pm

I went to a business called the West Side Garage Sale on Monday night with the CEO group.  This is a business that is set up for second hand retail.  They have: a huge clothes selection, furniture, beds, collectibles, household items, baby items, televisions, and appliances!  The building was made out of an old factory building so the store is quite large!

My goal with this blog is to bring attention to this business!  It opened for business at the end of March 2008.  They are working on better advertising and marketing for the West Side Garage Sale.  Soon they will have a potential website, be located on Craigslist, newspapers, and posting around campus.

I even bought a mirror for 25 cents and a solid oak tv stand for $30 in great condition!  So please check it out!  They have a huge store with great prices!  It is a great place for college students who are looking to furnish their apartments with nice items on a tight budget!
